mysql - which database technology to use for many user searchable columns -

We currently have a system, where the user summarizes the data on a large scale (20+) dimensions What they can see is that the MySQL is currently struggling on this effort, that there are not enough indexes to handle all the major combinations used primarily. Users have a date-based field, which is included with each query, but all other fields connect the user base in a random way. Is a database product more optimized for this type of search?

I am looking at products like MongodiBi or Kesandra to reconstruct the data, but I am not sure they will be able to handle the search requirement efficiently.
